Happy New Year 2012!
It has been a long time since I have posted anything! I have written many posts in my mind, but I just didn't have the energy! We have had a wonderfully full holiday season. I didn't do so many of the things I had planned, but the winter month of January is a very good time for me to concentrate on my organizing projects. I can't say "reorganizing" because that would imply that at one time it was organized.
I have never recovered from our downsizing and remodeling move of 2009. (For more info on that click here.) I have been diligently praying for the Lord's help in this matter, and a few days ago, I awoke with some sort of vision and determination. Thank you Lord! It was such a relief to have a plan.
Luke's girlfriend, Rebecca, was over and she offered her assistance, which is very nice, since I really don't like asking the guys. My husband is a true minimalist and his brain works way faster than I can process the whole thing. If I don't involve him, he mostly just lets me do my own thing and rarely mentions my messes. I am a very visual person, so most of my messes are hidden.
Since we have moved here to The Big House, I just don't know where to put most things, so my messes have spilled over into our everyday living space. Yikes!! The bulk of our remodeling was done in 2009, but the closets and such have been a process. My brain has been smoking trying to decide how I want each space to function, while factoring in the ever changing family dynamics. Of course, if my money tree hadn't died, this really wouldn't be an issue!
I am not a minamalist at all, and I have a hard time organizing, because I am very picky. I know this seems like a strange combo, but there is a book solely dedicated to people like me! (Living Organized by Sandra Felton). When I read that book, I laughed till I cried! It was so eye opening to read about being a 'perfectionist messy.' I have a diagnosis! Let's just say I am picky, I am not using very much of my left brain, I have too many ideas, which makes everything way too complicated for me to impliment, and I live in a small enough place that there isn't room to toss it all in a closet and shut the door, besides the fact that most of my closets don't have doors yet! Whew!
So far, the plan is to move Luke's bedroom to the larger room downstairs. Which means I have to move out all the office, photo, and craft stuff, and find them a home. Right now Luke's room is somewhat clean (but not decorated or completely rid of my stuff). The rest of the stuff is piled upstairs! The entry hallway is worse, but I won't bore you with more pictures of disaster.
Anyway, I think it is going to take me a couple of tries before I get it in good working order. Right now it is pretty ugly in here! I am determined to put my house in order (1 Cor. 14:40) and unclutter my mind!

been working on this too...getting rid of stuff so we fit within the space we have! So far lots of TOYS gone, and books, and STUFF. Where does all this stuff come from? December was my month of decluttering, and I've been enjoying the after math so far, although there are still a few little issues to tweak!
ReplyDeleteIt isn't that you are disorganized per say, you just need to get rid of stuff, and probably purchase some organizing furniture.
ReplyDeleteTight budgets are hard, but you can do it. :)
So happy the God of hope has given you some encouragement in this area. You will be able to help others with this in the years to come.
ReplyDeleteIt is funny what you call a disaster in your house, we call impressively neat and tidy in ours.
